The other day I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph the Bortolussi twins. To get to work with 20 tiny fingers and toes was so much fun. Ive always been totally bummed that twins didn't run in my family; when I found out my father-in-law was a twin, little pools of hope and dreams bubbled inside me...until I learned it generally goes through the female line (she has to produce/release two eggs)...hopes and dreams dashed. So whenever I get the opportunity to shoot some twins I bubble with giddy delight :) Cameron and Amanda are such wonderful parents and I'm so excited to have been a part of capturing their little family. Its always such an honor to shoot such loving people.
Ok these girls could be the cutest little ladies in the world! Their personalities were so darling which made this shoot so much fun! I am so grateful to have meet and worked with this family.
I'm pretty lucky. I get to call these adorable kids my nieces and nephews. Melanie is my older sister and was such a wonderful example to me growing up. We shared bunk beds from the time I was a toddler until she left for college and I have so many fun memories with her. I used to pretend I was asleep and listen to her and her girlfriends talk about boys and makeup and high school problems, I thought they were soooo cool! Love these people so much!
A little over a year ago my family dug out and poured the foundation for a cabin in CO. It's near the Royal Gorge if any of you know where that is and is located on 40 gorgeous acres of forest and mountains. Last memorial day weekend we started framing and its amazing to see how far it's come in a years time. Probably 98% of the work has been done by my family. Between my brothers there are numerous years of construction work and masters in mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. They are resourceful and educated in a way that my brain just doesn't comprehend. I made the mistake of asking my brother Daniel how the stairs were supposed to be help up by dowels...big mistake....he started talking numbers and physics (or some type of science/math stuff) and it went in one ear and out the other. After a lengthy conversation and blank stairs I smiled, nodded and said 'well I guess I trust you". Anyways, it's coming along beautifully and we're hoping to have the occupancy inspection in the next few months. SOOOO excited!
So this weekend we worked on the ceiling and walls, stained the kitchen cabinets and put up some of the stairs. The ceiling and walls are partially dry walled and then other parts are lined with pine beetle wood. For those of you who don't know about the pine beetle its a sad tale...These beetles have killed thousands of thousands of pine trees. They poison it and we can't figure out how to stop them, they are destroying forests and its super sad. Anyways they have started cutting down the trees that have died and selling them. Well let me tell you something...for as awful as these little creature are they do beautiful things to the wood. Because they kill portions of the tree they leave grey streaks through the light pine wood and the contrast and variety is astonishing. I need to get better pictures of some of the wood, but there are some shots below.
Just a quick word about the stairs pictured below. First off they are handmade by my brother and dad from trees off our land. There isn't many things more beautiful then using what's around you to make wonderful handcrafted items. So excited about these stairs. Enjoy
Bryce and Natalie Merrill could be two of my favorite people in the whole world. We all played on the BYU ultimate frisbee team together for years with Bryce eventually becoming Nat and my coach. We've spent days trapped in cars together laughing about the most ridiculous things and making up games to encourage competition and truth telling. They are such wonderful friends and I was so happy that little Charlotte showed up before we had to move. There is no doubt in my mind that Charlotte will turn out to be amazing, just like her parents. Thanks for letting me capture your little one. Love you guys.
oh and this is the first time I'm displaying my blog with a gallery so just click to scroll through the pics. Also, if it doesn't work for you please leave a comment letting me know so I can change things! Thanks.
